Kutch Tremor: 3.3 Magnitude Tremor Recorded in Gujarat Kutch

Kutch Tremor: According to an official from the Indian Seismological Research (ISR), a tremor with a magnitude of 3.3 struck Gujarat’s Kutch district late Monday afternoon.

The earthquake’s epicenter was 10 km east-northeast (ENE) of Dudhai in the Kutch district. It was recorded at approximately 4:10 PM at a depth of 30 kilometers.

Seismic Activity in the Region:

This tremor marks the third earthquake exceeding 3.0 magnitude in the Saurashtra-Kutch region this month. Despite the seismic activity, officials reported no injuries or property damage following the tremor.

Kutch Tremor Historical Data:

The Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA) notes that the state is highly susceptible to earthquakes, having experienced nine major quakes in the past 200 years.

One of the most devastating earthquakes occurred on January 26, 2001, in Kutch, registering 6.9 on the Richter scale.

This earthquake, with its epicenter near Bhachau, resulted in the deaths of 13,800 people and injuries to 167,000, making it the third largest and second most destructive earthquake in India’s history over the past two centuries.

Safety Measures and Preparedness:

Given the high earthquake risk in Gujarat, continuous monitoring and preparedness are essential.

The GSDMA emphasizes the importance of earthquake-resistant infrastructure and public awareness to mitigate the impact of future seismic events.
