On Monday, the death toll in the horrific Kerala boat accident increased to 22, while ten people were rescued and were hospitalised. 

According to district officials, the boat capsized near an estuary near the Thoovaltheeram beach in the Tanur area around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday near an estuary close to the Thoovaltheeram beach. The rescue efforts are still ongoing.

The Indian Navy’s Chetak helicopter was called in to aid in the search and rescue effort on Monday morning. Officials report that 22 people have died, and 10 have been rescued. Meanwhile, five persons arrived at the beach via swimming, they said.

Pinarayi Vijayan, the chief minister of Kerala, paid a visit to Taluk Hospital in Malappuram district, where survivors of the event were being treated. 

The CM expressed his condolences on Twitter, writing, “Deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives in the Tanur boat accident in Malappuram.” 

The District administration has been asked to efficiently organise rescue activities, which Cabinet Ministers monitor. Condolences to the bereaved families and friends.”

Following the event, Kerala Health Minister Veena George called for an emergency meeting of the state health department at midnight and asked authorities to provide better care for the injured. She also requested that the post-mortem examination be accelerated.

The state government has ordered a judicial investigation into the case and has agreed to compensate the deceased’s kin with ten lakh rupees.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condoned the loss of life in the incident and declared a two-lakh ex-gratia grant to the deceased’s next of kin. 

As he stated in his tweet, Pained by the loss of lives due to the boat mishap in Malappuram, Kerala. Condolences to the bereaved families. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lahks from PMNRF would be provided to the next of kin of each deceased: PM @narendramodi.
