Manasi Parekh opens up about making Kutch Express in Gujarati

Key takeaways:

  • Manasi Parekh talks to the media about her movie Kutch Express, working with Ratna Pathak Shah and Gujarati pictures.

Manasi Parekh rose to fame with some TV shows like Zindagi Ka Har Rang…Gulaal and Sumit Sambhal Lega are gradually and steadily transforming the face of the Gujarati film industry, one movie at a time. She only saw the theatrical launch of her film Kutch Express, in which she essays the lead and is even the co-producer.

The heart-touching family drama even marks the Gujarati debut of artist Ratna Pathak Shah, who portrays her mother-in-law in the movie. Manasi reveals that just like Kantara was a hit despite being in Kannada, this movie should also be in Gujarati, not Hindi, to have the right flavour.

In an interview, Manasi talked about the film that circles around a housewife who becomes an artist after learning about her hubby’s extramarital affair.

Her role in Kutch Express:

Manasi says, “I was so fortunate because this is a role with so many shades. Most of my crew members wanted me to portray the part, but I didn’t want to do it just because I was making it. But I wanted to give an audition for the character and do a look test, and when I did, everyone just wanted me for the part.”

Manasi on language importance:

“We wanted to have a theatrical venture first. We wanted the viewers to think that it would only stream on OTT. The authenticity of the movie is in Gujarati only. Language is such an important aspect. Kantara worked in Kannada because the language the characters speak has its own reality and truth which cannot be recreated in another language.”

“For us, the genuineness of the language, the realism of the characters, everything would only feel real if made in Gujarati. Regional films have taken over, and people are open to movies in multiple languages.”
