Mrunal Thakur discusses Jersey’s failure and speculates that Nani’s film
Mrunal Thakur appeared in Jersey alongside Shahid Kapoor and Pankaj Kapur. The movie is a new Hindi remake of the Telugu film of the same name, released in 2019 and starred Nani.
Mrunal Thakur has spoken out about Jersey’s box office failure. The film, which also starred Shahid Kapoor also Pankaj Kapur, was made on an 80 crore rupee budget. However, despite positive reviews, it did not even reach the 20 crore mark at the box office. Mrunal recently discussed why the movie may not have performed well at the box office.
The actor believes that the original Telugu version of the film of the same name, which starred Nani in Shahid Kapoor’s role, was affecting its earnings. The Telugu part, which won two National Awards, came out in April 2019. Ronit Kamra, who played Nani’s son in Shahid’s film, reprised the role. Gowtam Tinnanuri directed both of the movies.
Mrunal recently told ETimes about the box office collections, “It is disappointing. Aside from performances, several other factors make a film work, such as positioning, marketing, etc. We spared no effort. Maybe it’s a phase. Maybe there are so many external reasons. I have no idea what is happening.”
She continued, “Even though the film is in its third week, some people will still see it, and the film is slowly growing in popularity. One of the reasons (it didn’t work) could be that the dubbed Hindi version of the film is currently airing on television. It can also be found on YouTube. Other factors may also be present.”
Jersey grossed slightly less than 14 crores in its first weekend. However, according to Bollywood Hungama, the film has grossed approximately 17.20 crore. Shahid played Arjun Talwar, a talented but failed cricketer who decides to return to the game at the age of 36 to confirm his ability and also fulfill his son’s wish for a jersey as a gift.
