Nagpur Rain: heavy rain hit several parts of the city; IMD predicts more heavy showers in the city. Holiday has been declared in several schools and colleges. 

Heavy rains pounded Nagpur city on Friday night, inundating low-lying areas and prompting evacuations from these areas to safer locations.

The weather department reported 106 mm of rain at Nagpur airport until 5.30 a.m. 

Several roadways and residential areas have been submerged, according to officials. As a preventive step, the administration has declared a holiday for schools.

Deputy CM on Nagpur Rain:

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is from Nagpur, told on X that he is constantly following the city’s rain conditions. “There has been continuous rainfall, causing the Ambazari lake to overflow.” 

This has a greater impact on the low-lying area surrounding it. “Other parts of the city are also affected,” his office on X stated.

According to Fadnavis’ office, the deputy CM has directed the Nagpur collector, municipal commissioner, and police commissioner to “immediately activate multiple teams for rescuing people who are stuck in a few places.”

It further stated that teams from the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force are being deployed. Meanwhile, the city authority relocated residents from several flooded areas to safer regions of the city.

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation has asked residents not to leave their houses unless absolutely necessary. Many city roadways are saturated as a result of the ongoing rainfall, it said.

According to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Nagpur center, “severe/moderate thunderstorm with lightning” would likely continue in isolated areas of Nagpur, Bhandara, and Gondia districts. It also mentioned the likelihood of “intense rain at isolated places” in these areas.

Many areas in Wardha, as well as parts of Chandrapur, Bhandara, and Gondia, are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall. It is highly likely that light rain will fall in isolated areas over Amravati, Yavatmal, and Gadchiroli.
