The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating an alleged malpractice case in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) held at the Jay Jalaram School in Godhra’s Parvadi village, Gujarat, on May 5. On Saturday, the CBI arrested Dixit Patel, the Chairman of the Jay Jalaram Schools.
On Sunday, the CBI approached the Panchmahal district court to seek remand of Patel. However, the court denied the application, stating that the case fell under the jurisdiction of the Special CBI Court. Consequently, the CBI approached the Special CBI court in Ahmedabad.
Arrest Details of Jay Jalaram Schools Chairman:
Dixit Patel was arrested late on Saturday, just hours after the Panchmahal district court granted four days remand for four accused: Tushar Bhatt, Purshottam Sharma, Vibhor Anand, and Arif Vora. The Godhra Taluka police station previously arrested these individuals based on an FIR lodged on May 8 by the District Education Officer of Panchmahal.
The CBI recorded Patel’s statement on June 27 when it visited the two centers run by the same trust — Parvati in Godhra and Padal (Thermal) in Kheda district. Officials in Panchmahal stated that the CBI, interrogating the four accused in remand at the Godhra circuit house, arrested Patel late on Saturday night and completed the formalities of the medical check-up at Godhra Civil Hospital.
Remand Application on Jay Jalaram Schools Chairman:
In its remand application, the CBI stated that Patel is suspected of being in touch with the accused, who were previously involved in the case and were aware of the malpractice. Patel is the sixth person arrested in the NEET-UG malpractice case at the Godhra Centre. The CBI had not sought custody of the fifth arrested accused, Parshuram Roy, an immigration agent and owner of Roy Overseas.
Student Statements and Further Investigation:
On Thursday, the CBI recorded statements of at least six local Gujarat students who had approached the accused for alleged malpractice in the NEET exam at the center. The CBI also recorded statements of the school owner, Dixit Patel, as well as other staff of the school in Godhra and its second school in Padal in Kheda district.
Special CBI Team Visit:
On Wednesday, a special CBI team visited two private schools to investigate the alleged NEET-UG irregularities on May 5, a nationwide entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to UG medical programs. They visited Jay Jalaram School in Godhra’s Parvadi village and another in Kheda district’s Padal, about 115 kilometers from Godhra and another NEET-UG exam center in the state. Dixit Patel owns both schools.
