Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated nine new Vande Bharat Express trains via video conferencing, expanding India’s semi-high-speed rail network to 34 trains. 

These new trains aim to improve Connectivity and promote tourism across the country.

In his address, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the government’s focus on multi-modal Connectivity and ease of travel, aiming to minimize commuting time for citizens. 

He noted that this infrastructural development aligns with the aspirations of India’s 140 crore (1.4 billion) people.

Faster Connectivity with the new Vande Bharat Express:

The nine new Vande Bharat Express trains will enhance Connectivity across 11 states, including Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Bihar, West Bengal, Kerala, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Gujarat.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw praised Prime Minister Modi’s transformative efforts in the railway system over the past nine years. He highlighted the improved cleanliness and upgraded facilities at railway stations.

Travel Time Reduction:

Compared to the current fastest trains on respective routes, the Vande Bharat Express trains will significantly reduce travel times:

  • Rourkela – Bhubaneswar – Puri: Approximately three hours saved.
  • Kasaragod – Thiruvananthapuram: Approximately three hours saved.
  • Hyderabad – Bengaluru: More than 2.5 hours saved.
  • Tirunelveli-Madurai- Chennai: More than 2 hours saved.
  • Ranchi – Howrah: Approximately one hour saved.
  • Patna – Howrah: Approximately one hour saved.
  • Jamnagar-Ahmedabad: Approximately one hour saved.
  • Udaipur – Jaipur: Approximately half an hour saved.

Connecting Religious and Cultural Centers:

Two new trains, Rourkela- Bhubaneswar – Puri and Tirunelveli-Madurai- Chennai, will connect significant religious towns, facilitating travel to Puri and Madurai.

These initiatives aim to enhance travel convenience, reduce journey times, and strengthen India’s rail network.
