Qualcomm SoCs are expect to be use in the Galaxy S23 series worldwide.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 series is expect to be released in February 2023 and will be the first set of Galaxy smartphones to feature Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. The latest rumor suggests that the flagship Galaxy trio will use a customized version of Qualcomm’s latest SoC with overclocked CPU and GPU cores. Earlier this year, Samsung and Qualcomm announced a multi-year agreement in which it was hint that Samsung would use mostly Snapdragon SoCs in its Galaxy S23 series. Implying that Exynos-powered S23 handsets would be few and far between.

Samsung has a long history with Qualcomm, and we’ve seen Galaxy S-series smartphones be the first to ship with flagship Qualcomm SoCs before anyone else. So it’s no surprise that Samsung’s next big launch will include special edition SoCs designed specifically for its flagships.

This new information comes from Ice Universe (@UniverseIce), a prolific Twitter tipster. Who tweeted that Samsung will have a special edition Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC with a CPU’s prime core running at 3.36GHz (vs. 3.2GHz) and an Adreno GPU running at 719MHz (vs. 680MHz). These are the maximum frequencies that the SoC can reach when necessary.

Running at a higher frequency than stock introduces the possibility of more heat buildup. So it will be interesting to see how Samsung handles this with its cooling system. I wouldn’t be surprise if Samsung only uses this overclocked SoC in the Galaxy S23 Ultra. That phone is expect to be heavier and larger than the other two, implying a more effective cooling solution. This would also give Samsung another point of differentiation between its Ultra model and the other two.
