PM Modi asks states to ramp up testing and COVID-19 contact tracing.

In a video conference, PM Modi said that all those who came in contact with Coronavirus infected person must be traced and tested within 72 hours.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a video-conference with chief ministers of 10 states to gauge the stock of the COVID-19 situation. PM Modi observed that 10 states account for 80 percent of the active coronavirus cases and insisted that if the virus is defeated in these states, then India will emerge victorious in its fight against the global pandemic. 

PM Modi praised the states that have shown a rise in recovery rate:

PM Modi told the Chief Ministers and representatives of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra that the recovery rate in these states had gone up, meaning that the state governments’ efforts are proving to be effective. PM Modi stated,” Our experience so far is that containment, contact tracing, and surveillance are the most effective weapons against the pandemic, with experts of the view that if cases are identified within 72 hours of onset, then infection slows down to great extent.”

Increase testing and contact tracing say, PM Modi:

The Prime Minister underlined the importance of contact tracing and said that it should be followed like a mantra. PM Modi highlighted that most numbers of active coronavirus infections are from the 10 states. PM Modi urged the 10 states to sit together, review and discuss the prevailing situation in their respective states, which will help them gain insight on other state’s experiences and best practices. As per the statement released by the PMO, Modi said that the main basis of his strategy to curb the infections was focusing on screening and segregation of containment zones. 

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan were among the few other dignitaries that attended the video-conference meeting.
