PM Modi: 1GB Data Costs Less Than Tea

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the India Mobile Congress 2025 at Yashobhoomi Convention Centre in New Delhi on Wednesday, emphasizing India’s remarkable digital transformation. He highlighted that one gigabyte of data in India now costs less than a cup of tea, humorously referencing his signature habit of mentioning tea in speeches, alluding to his journey from tea-seller to Prime Minister.

India’s Telecom Revolution

Modi praised India’s technological leap, noting that a nation once struggling with 2G networks now has 5G coverage in nearly every district. Taking a veiled jibe at the Opposition, he recalled how critics mocked the ‘Make-in-India’ initiative, questioning whether India could manufacture technologically advanced equipment. He declared this the best time to invest and innovate in India, emphasizing the country’s ability to deliver befitting responses to doubters.

Manufacturing Boom and Global Partnership

The Prime Minister highlighted impressive growth statistics since 2014. Electronics production has increased six-fold, mobile phone manufacturing has grown 28 times, and exports have surged 127 times. Modi attributed the India Mobile Congress’s success to the nation’s tax-saving mindset and noted that numerous global companies now seek India as a trusted partner in electronics manufacturing.

Modi’s address underscored India’s transformation from a technology importer to a manufacturing powerhouse, positioning the country as a key player in the global telecom and technology landscape. The India Mobile Congress continues to serve as a platform showcasing India’s innovation capabilities and investment potential in the digital economy.
