India reported 12,881 new Coronavirus cases in its
biggest single-day spike; death toll rises to 12,237.
On Thursday, India reported fresh 12,881 Covid-19 infections taking the nation’s Coronavirus tally to 366,946 as per the Union Health
Ministry. In the last 24 hours, 334 deaths were registered, which means that
the death toll in India stands at 12,237. A total of 194,325 patients have
recovered from the fatal virus and the total number of active patients in the
country stood at 160,384. This means that the country’s recovery rate has risen to 52.95 percent.
PM Modi rules out lockdown:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ruled out the possibility of a re-lock or lockdown in the nation. On Wednesday, while addressing the second batch of Chief Ministers of 14 states and Jammu & Kashmir’s LT; he said the only way forward to fight the global pandemic is to “unlock, unlock, unlock” and ramp up the healthcare facilities. Modi said,” We need to find ways to open the economy further, we need to take steps in the direction of unlock, unlock, unlock”.
Meanwhile, Fitch ratings,
revised India’s outlook from “stable” to “negative”, explaining that global
pandemic has crippled India’s growth prospects and exposed the challenges in
regards to a high public-debt burden.
Supreme Court stays all Rath
Yatras in Puri:
In the interest of the health
of citizens and their safety, the Supreme Court of India has stayed all Rath Yatra activities in the historic and popular city of
Puri in Odisha. It is a sight to behold at Lord
Jagannath’s temple in Puri every year as lakhs of devotees come down to the
temple to witness the Rath Yatra.
Supreme Court on Thursday,
however, said,” Lord Jagannath won’t forgive us if we allow this year’s Rath
Yatra,” and stated that such mass gathering in a global
pandemic cannot be
allowed.
