The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) SEHAT program for the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir will be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday.
As many as 21 lakh qualified individuals will benefit from the scheme mostly on the basis of the 2011 Socio-Economic as well as Caste Census (SECC), officials stated. As per the SECC 2011 database, the beneficiaries will receive Universal Healthcare Coverage (UHC), they added.
As the Government stated to ANI news agency:
A senior government official said to the news agency ANI that all residents of Jammu and Kashmir, regardless of their socio-economic status, would be protected under the policy with the introduction of AB-PMJAY SEHAT.
The government gathers information from the SECC 2011 database of the beneficiary families who may be absent. This would ensure that all beneficiaries are registered as early as possible in order to benefit from free healthcare services, the official added.
According to the PMO statement:
The scheme will operate in harmony with Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, as per the statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) (PM-JAY).
In convergence with Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), the scheme will work in protection mode,” the statement read, stating that the benefits of the scheme would’ve been portable across all 24,148 hospitals enrolled in India under ABPM-JAY.”

The PM-JAY, the world’s largest government-funded health insurance/assurance scheme, offers a cover of Rs 500,000 per family per year for hospitalization in secondary including tertiary care through public as well as private hospitals in India.
The value of Rs 5,00,000 is on the basis of a family floater, which indicates that one or more members of the family can utilize it.
It requires medical treatments such as cardiology, nephrology, oncology, etc., and the scheme also includes up to three days of pre-hospitalization and 15 days of post-hospitalization costs such as diagnostics and medicines.
The virtual event will be attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah as well as Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
