Police alert on Delhi borders day after the ‘Chakka jam’.

Police alert on Delhi borders day after the ‘Chakka jam’.

Key Points:

  • Security forces were deployed early Sunday from all Delhi borders, the day after the ‘chakka jam‘.
  • The borders that connect Delhi to Uttar Pradesh have seen strong deployments of police and paramilitary forces.
  • ‘chakka jam’ demand from farmers towards the internet ban near the protest sites.

As farmers’ agitation towards the agricultural laws of the Centre proceeded, security forces were deployed early Sunday from all Delhi borders, the day after the ‘chakka jam’ demanded by protesters peacefully ended on Saturday.

Heavy deployment of police and paramilitary forces was observed at Tikri border:

The Tikri border, which links the national capital with Haryana and the Ghazipur border, that connects Delhi to Uttar Pradesh, has seen strong deployments of police and paramilitary forces.

Saturday’s heavy security came to prevent the re-run of violence during Republic Day when fighting broke out among police and demonstrators after one peasant died after his tractor overturned and others were wounded on both sides.

‘chakka jam’ the blockade of national and state highways:

On Saturday, the ‘chakka jam’ demand from farmers towards the internet ban near the protest sites and alleged abuse by authorities stayed largely peaceful, blocking national and state highways. Several thousand farmers from all over the country, particularly in Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan, expressed their support, whereas symbolic road blockades were witnessed in certain parts of the country.

“The unions withdrew the request for the Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Delhi blockade, claiming inputs on some “miscreants attempting to disturb the peace.

Farmers were seen offering foods and water for standard commuters:

As when the three-hour blockade leads to traffic snarls, peasants were seen on the Rohtak-Delhi highway providing food and water to stranded commuters. There were related Punjab stories as well. Protestors have stalled traffic congestion in parts of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Karnataka, farm leaders claimed.

No untoward incident from anywhere has been recorded. Several demonstrators, however, were briefly arrested for blocking roads through the police in many other states.

Farmers have been protesting for the bill passed by the centre:

For even more than two and a half months currently, farmers have been protesting at the borders of Delhi requesting the repealing of the Farmers’ Produce Trade as well as Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, and Farm Services Act, 2020, the Farmers’ (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020, that farmers say favours large companies.

The Centre denied the concerns and proposed installing the laws on hold for 18 months, but discussions are still stuck in a stalemate.
