Preity Zinta Leads Celebrations as Punjab Kings Return to IPL Playoffs After 11 Years

Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta was visibly emotional and jubilant as her team sealed a spot in the IPL 2025 playoffs for the first time in 11 years. The celebrations erupted at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur when captain Shreyas Iyer launched the winning six off Trent Boult, completing a commanding seven-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians and confirming a top-two finish for PBKS.

Zinta, a familiar figure in the stands at Punjab games, jumped with joy and was seen embracing Iyer after the win. She later posed for a celebratory selfie with head coach Ricky Ponting and chatted with Mumbai Indians owner Akash Ambani. As one of the most passionate and hands-on owners in the league, her reaction reflected the magnitude of the moment for Punjab Kings and their fans.

The win marked a turning point for the franchise, which last reached the playoffs in 2014. Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer and the guidance of Ponting, Punjab Kings have emerged as a well-rounded side, blending experience with youthful flair.

Monday’s win was built on the foundation of a disciplined bowling effort that restricted Mumbai to 184 for 7—a sub-par total on a high-scoring surface. Despite a fluent 57 from Suryakumar Yadav, Mumbai’s batters failed to capitalize in the final overs, undone by Punjab’s well-executed slower deliveries and sharp field placements.

In response, young opener Priyansh Arya and Australian batter Josh Inglis dismantled Mumbai’s attack with a 109-run stand for the second wicket. Arya, a revelation in his debut season, struck a composed 62 off 35 balls, while Inglis blazed his way to 73 off 42. The duo’s calm and calculated approach took the pressure off and swung the momentum decisively in Punjab’s favor.

Shreyas Iyer, known for his composed leadership, added the finishing touch with an unbeaten 26, including the match-winning six. His performance continued to underline the stability he has brought to the team this season.

After the win, Preity Zinta made it a point to personally congratulate Priyansh Arya on the field, acknowledging his consistent performances that have played a key role in Punjab’s resurgence.

Punjab Kings will now return to their home ground in Mullanpur to host Qualifier 1 on May 29. With momentum on their side and belief running high, the team stands just one win away from a coveted spot in the IPL final.

For fans and players alike, Monday’s victory wasn’t just another result—it was a moment of redemption, signaling that Punjab’s long wait may finally be over.
