President Trump temporarily shelves G7 summit, wants India to join.

Sighting “very outdated group of countries” Trump also invited Australia, Russia and South Korea to join the group.

On Saturday, United States President Donald Trump announced the postponement of the Group of Seven (G7) summit, which he would have held this year in late June. He also wanted to expand the countries included in the G7 and invited Australia, South KoreaRussia and India to be a part of the group.

President Trump calls the current countries in G7 “very outdated group of countries”:

After returning to Washington from Cape Canaveral in Florida, Trump spoke to reporters on Air Force One. President Trump was of the opinion of upgrading and expanding the current list of countries as the currently listed countries do not and could not properly represent the global pandemic. In the current format, Trump believes G7 is a “very outdated group of countries”, he further said, “I am postponing the summit because I don’t feel that as a G7, it properly represents what’s going on in the world.”

The decision is a dramatic turn of events for Trump, who was set to host the summit in late June this year, wherein major industrialized countries would be coming to Washington and President Trump would have demonstrated how the United States was returning to normal after the global Coronavirus pandemic.

The fatal virus has killed more than 103,000 Americans to date. The G7 consists of United States, Japan, Italy, Canada, France, Britain and Germany along with the European Union.
