Priyanka Chopra talks about the problems she faced in US schools
Actress Priyanka Chopra has disclosed for the first time the cruel and racist comments she received while attending a school in the United States during her adolescence.
In a recent podcast, she described how a gang of mean girls’ accused her of dating a boy they liked and tormented her with racist slurs.
Priyanka Chopra spoke about bullying with Alex Cooper on her show Call Her Daddy. When Alex asked Priyanka what she was bullied about, she answered, “It’s always about a boy.”
She claimed that the group of females assumed she spent the weekend with a boy when, in fact, she wasn’t even allowed to leave the house after school.
“These girls have recently started picking on me. Instead of yelling, ‘b*tch, keep away from my man,’ they began using racial obscenities. ‘I smell curry,’ ‘Ooh, I smell curry walking down the hall,’ ‘I don’t suppose she had time to shower,’ and so on.
Racial things. Then it became bullying, pushing against lockers and writing something derogatory in the restrooms. “It’s the kind of mean girl stuff that high school is made of,” Priyanka explained.
Priyanka said she had no idea why it happened and made her feel ‘less than’. “It made me feel smaller, inferior, as if I should dim my shine and curl my toes.” And I am not that young lady.
“My parents raised me to be confident, to have my shine, and to be okay with it,” she remarked. Priyanka then resolved to ‘pack her things and depart,’ as her father had instructed her every time they relocated due to her father’s army medical work.
“I was like, ‘fu** you America, I’m going back to India,’ and I’m glad I did because it launched my entire career,” she added.
Priyanka competed in Miss India and Miss World pageants after moving to India. She was crowned Miss World 2000 and even began acting in films.
She travelled to America in 2015 to work on his debut television series, Quantico. She married Nick Jonas in 2018 and was most recently featured in the Prime Video shows Citadel and Love Again.
