On Saturday, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra supported Indian protesting wrestlers against the Wrestling Federation of India’s chief, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. She met with them at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.
Later in the day, Gandhi will participate in election campaigns in Karnataka. In the morning, he arrived at Jantar Mantar and conversed with renowned women wrestlers, including Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat.
On Friday, the Delhi Police filed two FIRs against Singh in response to allegations of sexual harassment by seven female wrestlers. Gandhi demanded a copy of the FIR and expressed her lack of faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has yet to address the allegations against Singh. Gandhi criticized Modi for not speaking to the wrestlers, despite inviting them for tea when they won medals. She urged Modi to talk to the wrestlers, who are Indian girls.
Gandhi criticized the government for not revealing the contents of the FIR that had been filed. He expressed his confusion about why Brij Singh is being protected by the government when the women wrestlers who work hard to achieve success are not receiving justice. He also pointed out that the wrestlers’ achievements are celebrated on social media, but their current situation is ignored.
During a recent meeting, Gandhi called for Singh’s removal to prevent further harm to the wrestlers’ careers. This meeting took place shortly after the Congress leader criticized the government for disregarding the wrestlers’ requests and suggested that they were supporting the accused.
On Wednesday, Gandhi tweeted about the harmful impact of a political party’s arrogance on the voices of pride in India. This came after the country’s leading wrestlers protested against Singh and vowed to keep up their agitation until he was arrested. The Congress general secretary expressed his concern about the situation.
Gandhi expressed his support for the protesting wrestlers, stating that honouring and celebrating sportspersons is important because their success reflects positively on all of us.
“Women’s victories are bigger than men’s.” They are sitting on the road close to Parliament, and she is crying. No one is listening to their long-standing complaint about exploitation. Let us rally behind these sisters of ours. It is a subject of honour for the country,” Gandhi said in a Hindi tweet.
“These girls with strong arms and pure hearts believed the government when it said there would be an investigation.” However, the investigation did not take place. The issue of punishment was never raised. “Does the government want to save the perpetrators?” she stated.
