Raja Shivaji Shatters Records, Becomes Highest-Grossing Marathi Film Ever

Riteish Deshmukh’s directorial venture Raja Shivaji has scripted history at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing Marathi film of all time after collecting ₹114.8 crore worldwide in just three weeks. The film surpassed the long-standing record held by Sairat, which had accumulated ₹110 crore over its lifetime, marking a defining moment for Marathi cinema on the national stage.

A Record-Breaking Box Office Run

The film launched with explosive momentum, raking in over ₹30 crore net in its opening weekend alone. Week one ended at ₹57.70 crore net, followed by ₹84 crore net by the close of week two. By the end of its third week, the film stood at ₹97.85 crore net domestically, with an additional ₹4.9 crore from overseas markets pushing its worldwide gross past the historic ₹114 crore mark — the fastest any Marathi film has ever crossed ₹100 crore.

Star-Studded Cast Drives Audience Appeal

A major draw for audiences was the film’s extraordinary ensemble. Riteish Deshmukh directed and starred alongside Genelia Deshmukh, Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, and Fardeen Khan, with Salman Khan appearing in a cameo. The film also marked the acting debut of Riteish’s sons, Riaan and Rahyl Deshmukh, who portrayed Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at different stages of his life.

Produced on a ₹75 crore budget, Raja Shivaji has delivered a 30.46% return on investment, with lifetime net earnings projected between ₹110–₹115 crore. Industry observers see this milestone as a turning point that could inspire more regionally rooted films to pursue ambitious, nationwide theatrical releases.
