Ramdev Claims Cartel Working Against Patanjali Ayurved

Yog guru and founder of Patanjali Ayurved, Ramdev, has claimed that a cartel of corporations, pharmaceutical companies, intellectuals, and politicians conspired against his company.

In an interview with the Economic Times, Ramdev stated, “Patanjali denotes nationalism and self-pride, which this group (alleged cartel) wants to destroy.”

Ramdev Countering Negative Narratives:

Ramdev accused this alleged group of spreading false information about Patanjali, particularly targeting its research and development facilities.

He asserted that Patanjali’s facilities are superior to those of Hindustan Unilever Ltd, India’s largest consumer goods company, and even the government’s ayurvedic facility.

Focus and Future Plans:

Despite these challenges, Ramdev emphasized Patanjali’s commitment to its objectives, including adding investor value, expanding distribution and sales, enhancing research and innovation, and focusing on e-commerce. He also mentioned that premiumization would be a core focus area for the company moving forward.

“People try to damage the reputation of Patanjali, about ayurveda and natural products. But we are focused on our objectives,” he said. Ramdev added, “Despite all hurdles and struggles, we have reached where we are. We didn’t reach here because of any favours… We are here because of India’s consumers.”

Ramdev Talks about Market Position and Growth:

Sanjeev Asthana, the chief executive of Patanjali, highlighted the company’s significant market presence.

Patanjali holds a two-thirds share in the herbal toothpaste market and ranks as the fourth-largest biscuit player in India, with sales of ₹1,600 crore last year.

“We have ten brands that have leadership level in business. Our growth rate has been scorching, whether it’s market share or distribution,” Asthana noted.

Supreme Court Order:

Addressing the Supreme Court’s order directing Patanjali to take down misleading ad claims a few months ago, Ramdev clarified, “The Supreme Court matter was not about quality and neither about doing any wrongdoing… The matter is settled now.”
