On the third day of the Pink Test in Adelaide, India’s batting fiasco against Australia has been the hottest subject of debate at the moment. In the 2nd sessions of the first test, former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif talked about the mentality with which the Indians went out again to bat on Saturday, while many experts are trying to figure out reasons for India’s horrible batting display.

Latif recalled the 2002 Test against Australia:

Latif remembered the 2002 Australia Test in which Pakistan was bowled out at Sharjah towards Australia for 59 and 53. In the match, legendary spinner Shane Warne picked up 8 wickets (4 in each innings) to break the Pakistani batting.

The Aussies, led by Steve Waugh, had such an innings as well as 198 runs to win the game. Latif says that most of the time, there are days when bowlers seem to find the right position.

PTI quoted Latif as saying:

These things happen; there are days where 100 per cent of the time the bowlers just find the right spot, as well as the edges, go directly to the fielders.

I think the collapse happened because maybe the Indian batsmen stepped out with a mentality to strike and control the bowling, PTI news agency cited Latif as stating.

Further, Latif stated:

But the pitch changed its actions, and I thought it had a spongy bounce during the first two days, and that was a bit slow, but then the pitch also hardened a bit as well as the ball skidded beautifully also for bowlers, that’s why all the sides went into the fielders,” continued Latif.”

The former Pakistani captain clarified what went so wrong in the 2nd innings with Captain Kohli, who performed the first innings with a decent knock of 74 runs.

Virat Kohli played sensibly in the first innings:

In the first innings, but the second time around, Virat Kohli played a rather fair knock, with wickets falling too quickly at the other end, even he was compelled to chase a wide one to get runs on the scoreboard.

For Kohli, that must have been a nightmare to see his team bowled out just for 36 runs,” stated Latif.
