Bihar CM Nitish Kumar admitted the faulty design of an under-construction bridge over the Ganga on Monday, one day after it collapsed. Kumar told the news agency ANI that those found guilty will face the consequences. He went on to state that the same bridge had collapsed in 2022 as well.

“The bridge that collapsed yesterday collapsed last year as well.” I have directed officials to take firm measures. It is not properly designed, which is why it collapses repeatedly. “The department will look into it, and action will be taken,” the CM Nitish Kumar stated.

It was previously stated that Kumar had promptly started an investigation into the incident and sought the identification of the responsible individuals. Kumar inaugurated the bridge in 2014.

On Sunday, videos of the Bhagalpur bridge, which connected Aguvanighat and Sultanganj, crumbling were widely circulated on social media. The incident resulted in no injuries.

According to news agency PTI, the deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav stated that the demolition was scheduled because specialists discovered serious faults’ in its construction.

During a press conference, Yadav and the chief secretary of the road construction department, Pratyay Amrit stated that the judgment was made after a segment of the same bridge collapsed during a thunderstorm in 2022. He explained that the government then tasked experts at IIT-Roorkee with analysing the structure.
