Although it could not immediately confirm facts, the Airport Authority stated it was composing a statement regarding the incident. According to TVB, the interruption caused many rows in the city’s generally efficient airport to close for registration and check-in.
According to the South China Morning Post, the city’s major airline, Cathay Pacific Airways, was one of the worst hits. Requests for comment from Cathay did not immediately receive a response.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Hong Kong’s airport was among the busiest international airports, welcoming more than 71 million travellers in 2019.
To entice tourists and businesspeople back to the special Chinese administrative area after a lack of visitors in the previous three years due to COVID restrictions, the city government launched an advertising campaign dubbed “Hey Hong Kong” beginning in March.
