The Uttar Pradesh government would designate the recently released movie ‘The Kerala Story’ tax-free in the state, chief minister Yogi Adityanath declared on Tuesday.

According to the chief minister’s office, the video will be shown to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his cabinet colleagues at a special screening at Lok Bhawan.

Last year, the UP CM also attended a special screening of Akshay Kumar’s ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ after declaring the film tax-free in the state.

Raghvendra Mishra, secretary of the Uttar Pradesh BJP, recently showed the film to 100 female students in Lucknow. UP became the 2nd state after Madhya Pradesh to exempt the controversial film from taxation.

“The film depicts how the lives of daughters who become entangled in the trap of love jihad are destroyed.” It also reveals the design of terrorism,” stated Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in a video message.

“While we have already passed legislation prohibiting (forced) conversion, the film raises awareness of the issue.” “This film should be seen by everyone, which is why the Madhya Pradesh government has declared it tax-free,” he added.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has endorsed the film, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioning it during a political rally in Karnataka.

“The film ‘The Kerala Story’ attempts to expose the consequences of terrorism in a society, particularly in a state like Kerala, a beautiful land filled with hardworking, talented, and intellectual people.” “The Congress party is now attempting to ban the film and to support terrorist elements,” Modi stated last week at an election rally in Ballari.

The film, which depicts the coercive conversion of girls before the Islamic State recruits them, has already sparked political uproar across the country. The West Bengal administration banned the Sudipto Sen-directed film on Monday.

“The West Bengal govt has decided to ban the film The Kerala Story.” This is to avoid any incidents of hatred and violence and to keep the state peaceful,” chief minister Mamata Banerjee said on Monday.
