On Monday, the SC dismissed a petition seeking action against stand-up comedian Anubhav Singh Bassi for allegedly insulting lawyers in his comic show ‘Bas Kar Bassi’.

The Court, led by Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sudhanshu Dhulia, stated that it is not inclined to hear the plea against a comedic programme.

“What exactly is this?” Why should we entertain this in the face of a stand-up comedy show? “Bring something better,” the bench instructed counsel Farhat Warsi, who appeared as a petitioner in person.

Warsi claimed that Bassi insulted the advocate community in his show ‘Bas Kar Bassi’ and that action should be taken against him.

Anubhav Singh Bassi case demised:

However, the bench remained vacant. “Leave other lawyers to look after themselves.” You are not required to protect the entire community. “You look after yourself,” it advised Warsi.

The Court then stated in its decision, “We find no merit in the writ petition.” As a result, it is disregarded.”

Warsi’s petition highlighted a YouTube video of ‘Bas Kar Bassi’ in which the stand-up comedian recalled his early years as a law graduate and his experience as a young lawyer.

According to the petition, Bassi portrayed lawyers negatively, seeking that the Supreme Court investigate the “humiliation.”
