Ed-Tech firm Unacademy has recently dismissed a teacher whose video clip gained significant traction online. In the video, the teacher encourages students to vote for an educated candidate in the upcoming elections.

A user named Shantanu relayed the news of the teacher’s termination on the social media platform X.

Shantanu’s post highlighted that the teacher had not specially mentioned any names, yet supporters of the BJP assumed the reference was directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This assumption prompted a push from BJP supporters, ultimately leading to the teacher’s job loss.

Unacademy faced backlash on X (formerly known as Twitter) after one of its educators advised students against voting for politicians lacking literacy and resorting to superficial name changes.

The video, which went viral across the internet, featured the teacher stating, “When you vote next time, choose a candidate who possesses literacy to prevent facing similar situations in the future.”

He emphasized, “Select an individual who comprehends complex matters and exercises informed decision-making.”

Delhi’s Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, expressed his thoughts on the matter through a Twitter post. He questioned, “Is advocating for educated politicians a punishable offence? While I respect those who lack formal education, our public representatives must be well-informed.

In this era of scientific advancement and technological progress, illiteracy among our elected officials cannot contribute to developing a 21st-century India.”

The incident has ignited a conversation about the significance of education and literacy in political leadership, particularly in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

As the discourse continues, it remains to be seen how this incident will impact the intersection of education and politics in India’s future.

Uninstall Unacademy was trending at number 1 on Twitter as soon as the incident occurred, now changed to X.
