RSF and Sudan War 3rd-day updates

There have been violent conflicts across Sudan as fighting between rival armed forces continues for a third day.

A doctors’ union stated that the war between the army and a paramilitary force called the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has left about 100 people dead. Clouds of smoke were seen above Khartoum’s major airport, with TV showing pictures of fires and explosions.

Military air strikes have been targeting RSF bases, a few of which are done in residential areas. Both teams claimed to control critical areas in Khartoum’s capital, where locals sheltered from explosions.

There has been intense fighting around the nation’s prominent seat of power, the Republican Palace. The military says it stays in control of all its bases, including its Khartoum headquarters, where heavy weapons have been used during fierce clashes.

The sound of firings and blasts has barely stopped since Saturday morning. One analysis put the number of injured at 1,100.

Outside the capital, the military says it is in control of the eastern regions of the nation and the key Red Sea harbour of Port Sudan. But the war continues in Darfur, where the RSF is powerful, and also in Kordofan in the south.

Alarmed neighbours Kenya, South Sudan and Djibouti prepare to send their presidents to help negotiate the war. However, this is only currently feasible if the airport is shut. The US, EU and UK have called for an immediate stop to the fighting.
