Sameer Wankhede Defends Shah Rukh Khan WhatsApp Chat Leak

Former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officer Sameer Wankhede has addressed the controversy surrounding his alleged WhatsApp conversation with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan that surfaced online in 2023.

Wankhede recently filed a defamation lawsuit against Red Chillies Entertainment and Netflix over the series “The Bads of Bollywood,” which he claims portrays him in a false and malicious manner. In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, he clarified his position on the leaked chat.

Evidence Presented to Court, Not Leaked

“There was a writ petition which I had filed before the Hon’ble Bombay High Court. In that writ I had to present some evidence in front of the court. So why will I ‘leak’ it?” Wankhede questioned, emphasizing that the chats were official court documents accompanied by a Section 65B certificate for electronic evidence.

The controversial WhatsApp exchange dates back to May 2023, appearing just 10 days after Aryan Khan’s arrest in a cruise drug case. The messages showed Shah Rukh Khan allegedly pleading with Wankhede to show kindness toward his son, writing, “You are a good man. Please be kind to my son. My son will break as a human being.”

Investigation Still Ongoing

Wankhede himself faces a CBI corruption investigation, with the agency assuring the Bombay High Court in July 2025 that the probe would conclude within three months. The former Mumbai Zonal Director maintains that presenting evidence to the court was part of his professional duty, not a deliberate leak to the media.

The case continues to draw significant public attention as it intertwines Bollywood’s biggest star with India’s drug enforcement machinery.
