Sardar Sarovar Dam Nears Full Capacity Amid Continued Inflow

As of August 13th, the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada River, Gujarat’s largest dam, is nearing full capacity at 90.34%. At 8 AM, the dam recorded an inflow of over 1.10 lakh cusecs and a water level of 135.76 meters, compared to its full level of 138.68 meters.

The outflow was managed at 1.7 lakh cusecs into the river and 22,359 cusecs into the canal, with 9 gates opened by 2.1 meters to regulate the water levels.

Gujarat Reservoirs and Sardar Sarovar Dam Alerts:

With continuous rainfall across Gujarat, 50 reservoirs have reached 100% capacity, while 40 are between 70-100% full. Nineteen dams have 50-70% water levels, and 41 are at 25-50% capacity. Due to the high water levels:

  • 62 reservoirs are on high alert.
  • 17 dams are on alert.
  • 11 dams are under warning.

Ukai Dam Approaching Rule Level:

At 8 AM today, the Ukai Dam also saw significant water levels, measuring 102.08 meters. It’s just below the rule level of 102.11 meters prescribed for the period before September 1st. The dam is 76.89% full, with an inflow of over 82,000 cusecs and an outflow of over 81,000 cusecs into the riverbed.

Nine gates are currently opened by 1.22 meters. The dam’s full level of 105.16 meters must not be exceeded before September 1st, adhering to the safety guidelines.

These updates highlight the ongoing management of water resources in Gujarat as the state experiences heavy rainfall. Both Sardar Sarovar and Ukai Dams operate close to their capacities.
