For students, teachers, and other staff members, wearing masks while maintaining social distance is essential, and anyone entering schools and colleges is tested using thermal guns, State Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said to reporters.

To greet the students, various state ministers, as well as BJP MLAs, remained present at different schools in Gujarat, a statement from the state government stated.

Further Bhupendrasinh Chudasama stated:

At a school in the Kalol area of Gandhinagar, Chudasama greeted students, while Home Minister Pradeepsinh Jadeja was there at a school in the Vastral area of Ahmedabad to welcome students.

“There is great excitement between students as schools as well as colleges are reopening after a long COVID-19 vacation. Apart from reopening colleges for the final year under as well as post-graduate students, we also decided to open schools for classes ten as well as 12 ahead of the upcoming board exams,” Chudasama added.

The school management had already been advised to specifically follow the normal operating procedures of the Centre to track the spread of COVID-19, he added.

Last week, after a substantial decrease in the number of new COVID-19 cases registered on a regular basis, the state cabinet agreed to reopen schools for Classes 10 as well as 12 including colleges for graduation and also PG students for the final year.

It was also reported that students attending schools would have their parents’ permission received.

It was also made clear by the government that participation would not be compulsory and online lessons would begin.

Schools, colleges to reopen after 9 months:

Just after the state’s coronavirus outbreak also at the end of March last year,

schools, colleges as well as university campuses throughout the state were shut down. Classes have been taking place online since then.

While the government had previously planned to reopen secondary schools as well as colleges after last year’s Diwali holiday, after a sudden increase in regular coronavirus reports at that time, it eventually dismissed the idea.

Later, beginning in mid-December, the number of new cases registered daily began to decrease.

With 1,500 to 1,600 cases occurring on a daily basis in October as well as of November last year, about 700 cases are currently reported on a daily basis.
