The BJP leader was found hanging near his home in
the North Dinajpur district of West Bengal; the family seeks a CBI probe.
On Monday morning, senior BJP
leader Debendra Nath Ray was found hanging near his home in Hemtabad
area of North Dinajpur district of West Bengal, revealed the police. Ray had contested and even
won the Hemtabad assembly segment on a CPM ticket but last year had switched
over to the BJP post the Lok Sabha polls. The Hemtabad area is a reserved seat
for Scheduled Castes and Ray did not resign as CPM legislator in the state
assembly.
Police start the investigation:
A senior district police officer said,” Ray was found hanging near a shop at Hemtabad area this Monday morning. We have started the investigation. A forensic team has reached the spot and his body has been sent for the post-mortem.” The family of the deceased BJP leader has demanded a CBI probe into the incident as they suspect foul play & a conspiracy of murder to it. A family member on the incident said,” We think he was murdered. There should be a CBI inquiry into the killing.”
BJP says it is a cold-blooded
murder; accuses TMC:
The murder has sent shockwaves
across the political parties in the state of West Bengal and the BJP party
president JP Nadda called the incident as a prime example of Gunda Raj in Mamta
Banerjee’s government.
He said,” The suspected heinous killing of Debendra Nath Ray, BJP MLA from
Hemtabad in West Bengal, is extremely shocking and deplorable.” BJP’s state
leadership accused the Trinamool Congress party of being behind the “cold-blooded
murder”. BJP Chief of the state, Dilip Ghosh said,” This is a cold-blooded
murder by the goons of the TMC. The TMC was weary of Ray’s popularity in the
area. You can very well understand the state’s law and order situation when
even an MLA is not safe.”
