Shreyas Iyer Slams India’s Worst-Ever T20 Loss

India’s newly appointed T20I captain, Shreyas Iyer, did not mince words after his side suffered a crushing defeat to England in the third T20I at Trent Bridge. Chasing a target of 202, India’s batting lineup fell apart, bundled out for just 76 runs in 11.4 overs — a collapse that handed England a 125-run victory and marked India’s biggest-ever loss by runs in T20 International history. The result also gave England an unassailable 2-0 lead in the five-match series.

Iyer Calls Batting Display “Atrocious”

Speaking at the post-match presentation, a clearly disappointed Iyer described the performance as “atrocious,” admitting there was no better word to sum up the collapse. He acknowledged that losing by such a wide margin was simply not acceptable for a team carrying the tag of reigning T20 World Cup champions. According to Iyer, the squad now needs to go back to basics, honestly assess what went wrong, and rebuild from the ground up before the next fixture.

Powerplay Collapse Exposes Batting Frailties

The defeat was defined by a brutal powerplay demolition, as England’s pace bowlers ran through India’s top order early on. Only four Indian batsmen managed to reach double figures, underlining just how one-sided the contest became once wickets started tumbling. With the series slipping away, Iyer urged his players to take individual responsibility, build momentum from the top of the innings, and refocus their efforts ahead of the fourth T20I in Bristol, where India will look to salvage some pride and keep their series hopes alive.
