Singapore Resident Arrested in Ahmedabad for Alleged Fraud

Mumbai police detained a Singapore resident at Ahmedabad airport for his participation in the fraud.

Mumbai police arrested a 50-year-old Singapore resident at Ahmedabad airport for allegedly defrauding a South Mumbai-based firm of Rs 3.5 crore.

Details of the Singapore resident Fraud:

According to the Azad Maidan police, the accused, in a sophisticated international operation, along with an accomplice based in Jakarta, deceived the complainant by accepting payment for bronze and copper but delivered cement instead. The incident occurred between February 20, 2019, and June 11, 2019.

Delivery of Cement instead of Metals required:

The complainant, a 40-year-old businessman, ordered bronze and copper, paying USD 5,02,801 (approximately Rs 3.5 crore) through the accused, Hem Shah. However, the businessman received cement instead of the ordered metals, leading to a case being registered.

Look Out Circular Issued about Singapore resident:

Given that Shah and his accomplice Ramendra are residents of Singapore and Indonesia, respectively, the authorities issued a lookout circular against them. Shah was apprehended by immigration officials at Ahmedabad airport and subsequently handed over to the local police.
