Spotify could soon carry out a podcast subscription service.

Key points:

  1.  There may be at least four possible subscription plans, ranging from $3 to $8 / month, as per the survey.
  2. “A Spotify representative suggested that” concrete product plans “are not the survey.
  3. This essentially suggests that if Spotify is going to follow through with the service’s launch, that there’s no guarantee.

Spotify could be gearing up to launch soon a premium podcast service that will provide access for a monthly fee to original shows or some exclusive episodes. Over the past few years, the program has made substantial investments in podcasting and acquired several big podcast creators, including Gimlet, The Ringer, Parcast, and others, as well as exclusive podcast deals with, Kim Kardashian, Michele Obama, and Joe Rogan. Inside its app, Spotify has also been encouraging podcasts.

Podcasts provide Spotify with a “profitable incentive” because it does not have to pay license fees and licenses to distribute them, but can still make money on subscriptions and app-inserted advertising.

Eventually, Spotify would try to make money from the “massive amounts that it has poured into podcasting”, and one of the avenues could be a subscription plan.
