Sunil Gavaskar on Rahane’hundred: One of the best hundred by a batsman in Indian cricket history’.

Key sentence:

  1. The gritty century of Ajinkya Rahane in Melbourne towards Australia might go down as being one of his most beloved Test hundreds.
  2. In the first innings, Rahane’s knock formed the basis for India’s series-levelling 8-wicket victory in Melbourne.
  3. Many assume that this is undoubtedly Rahane’s most significant and unforgettable century.

The gritty century of Ajinkya Rahane in Melbourne towards Australia might go down as being one of his most beloved Test hundreds, but former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar believes that the hundred are of epic proportions and one that could be etched in Indian cricket history.

His second Test tonne in Australia is Rahane’s 112 in India’s first inning, preceding his epic 147 at the same ground six years earlier.

As Gavaskar stated to Seven Network:

In the first innings, Rahane’s knock formed the basis for India’s series-levelling 8-wicket victory in Melbourne. After they were bowled Australia out for 195, India rode on Rahane’s tonne to get a significant 131-run lead.

Rahane himself acknowledged that while he finds this to be a very significant knock in his career, his favourite remained the hundred he struck at Lord’s in 2014. Gavaskar, whereas, reckons Rahane’s 112 deserves a spot for the incredible claim it’s made in the pantheon of great Test centuries reached by Indian cricketers.

I think this hundred is likely to be one of the very important hundreds in Indian cricket history,” Gavaskar informed the Seven Network until day three of the game resumed.”

 Rahane with a comeback:

Essential because it’s displaying character, sending a message to the opponent that this Indian team will not just lie down and also be walked all over after being rejected for 36 in the previous match, to come back in this way.

That’s the post, and that’s why I feel that’s going to be among the most important centuries in Indian cricket history.

Like Gavaskar, many assume that this is undoubtedly Rahane’s most significant and unforgettable century, and that notion is difficult to disagree with. Just the conditions leading to the test make it special.

Stronger men would have wilted with India emerging off their lowest Test number in Adelaide, and Rahane are liable for getting his captain out.

But in terms of bowling adjustments as well as field placements, not only did Rahane play his cards correctly, India’s stand-in skipper steps out in the absence of Virat Kohli to put the team to the edge of one of their most remarkable wins.
