Sunny Deol’s bungalow auction took a political twist

Sunny Deol’s bungalow auction took a political twist

The opposition, including the Congress, voiced concerns on Monday after the Bank of Baroda (BoB) withdrew the e-auction notice for actor and Bharatiya Janata Party MP Sunny Deol’s Juhu bungalow.

Jairam Ramesh on Sunny Deol’s Bungalow auction:

“Yesterday afternoon, the nation got to know that Bank of Baroda had put up the Juhu residence of BJP MP Sunny Deol for e-auction because he has not paid up a 56 crore owed to the Bank,” senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh stated on X (formerly Twitter).

In less than 24 hours, the nation learned this morning that the Bank of Baroda had withdrawn the auction notice owing to “technical reasons.” “I wonder who triggered these ‘technical reasons’?”

Auction of the bungalow:

The state-run BoB had put a property owned by the actor up for auction to recover Rs 56 crore through an e-auction on August 25.

The Gurdaspur MP, whose latest film “Gadar 2” has already grossed over 370 crores at the box office since its release last week, has been in default on a 55.99 crore loan from the bank, plus interest and penalties, since December 2022, the second largest state-owned lender said in a public tender on Sunday.

However, according to several media reports, the auction notice for the bungalow has been withdrawn.

TSREDCO chairman reacts on the issue:

Y Sathish Reddy, the Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TSREDCO) chairman, also objected to the bank’s stance.

“In less than 24 hours: – Bank of Baroda issued an auction notice against BJP MP #SunnyDeol’s bungalow, alleging non-payment of dues amounting to 55 Cr – Astonishingly, the bank promptly retracted the notice, conveniently attributing it to ‘Technical Reasons,'” he tweeted.

The actor is formally named Ajay Singh Dharmendra Deol and has been serving the ruling BJP from the Punjab seat since 2019 when he defeated then-Congress member Sunil Jhakar by a large margin.
