Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari Opens at Rs 9.25 Crore

Shashank Khaitan’s family entertainer ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’ has opened to a moderate response at the box office, collecting approximately Rs 9.25 crore net on its first day across India. Released on October 2, the Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor starrer faced an uphill battle against Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara Chapter 1’, which stormed theaters with a massive pan-India opening of over Rs 60 crore.

Regional Performance and Occupancy Trends

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film registered an overall occupancy of 32.45 percent on day one, with evening shows attracting the maximum audience. Regional variations were significant—Chennai led with 58 percent occupancy, followed by Bengaluru at 51.33 percent and Kolkata at 45.67 percent. While metros like Mumbai, NCR, and Hyderabad posted solid numbers, tier-two cities including Surat, Bhopal, and Ahmedabad witnessed relatively lower turnout.

Critical Reception and Box Office Prospects

India Today’s review praised the film’s witty writing and nostalgic Bollywood callbacks, from Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Chak De’ monologue to clever ‘Mr. India’ references. However, the review noted that the film stumbles in its final act, with a rushed climax that weakens the overall impact. The first half builds promisingly but fails to deliver a satisfying payoff.

Produced by Dharma Productions, the film features an ensemble cast including Sanya Malhotra and Rohit Saraf alongside the lead pair. With its blend of romantic-comedy elements and glossy production values, the film’s box office fate will depend on strong word-of-mouth and sustained performance through the weekend, especially given the towering competition from ‘Kantara Chapter 1’.
