The next company to release a foldable smartphone might be Xiaomi.

Foldable phones aren’t easy or inexpensive to produce. The number of smartphone businesses adding a foldable smartphone to their list, though, only keeps rising.

 And there’s confirmation that Xiaomi could be the next mobile maker to announce a foldable smartphone if TechRadar’s article is something to go by.

A code spotted by XDA Developers in Xiaomi’s MIUI suggested that the groundwork has been laid for a foldable computer with the code name-Cetus. With regard to the device view, the folding capabilities of this Cetus are listed numerous times.

The code highlights the fact that we could be looking at a computer running Xiaomi’s patented MIUI on top of Android 11, with a Snapdragon processor and a 108MP main shooter on the rear. There is no detail on what this is going to be for Snapdragon SoC, but it will definitely be one of the high-end ones.

There is no other detail about this product available at the moment, no indication of its scale or future launch date. And so far, this is the biggest clue we have about Xiaomi’s foldable handset, and that next year could be coming at some point in time.

To be honest, because there have been talks about it for years, at least two years now, a foldable Xiaomi is not shocking.

Aside from speculation, Xiaomi is a company that wants to remain “at the forefront of mobile creativity,” and provided that Samsung, Motorola and Huawei have all flexed their foldable, Xiaomi will only be eager to give them more of a headstart.

There was some buzz about Xiaomi patenting a smartphone with a screen that bends as well as design-wise it was just like the Huawei Mate Xs some time earlier this year. The final product, however, may look nothing like.

And Xiaomi is likely to announce this foldable smartphone sometime in 2021, provided the reference to Android 11.
