On 15th August, former Indian
Cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni announced his retirement from international
cricket, and moments later, Suresh Raina announced his retirement too.

In an exclusive interview with Dainik Jagran, Suresh Raina revealed the reason behind selecting that date to retire. Both Raina and Dhoni reunited on Friday, at the Chennai Super Kings camp, to begin preparations for the Indian Premier League (IPL) – 13th season. Raina revealed that he was mentally prepared for Dhoni’s announcement as he knew about it. Explaining why 15th August was selected as the date of retirement, Raina said,” We had made up our minds to retire on Saturday. Dhoni’s jersey number is 7 and mine is 3 – put it together and it makes 73. And on August 15, India completes 73 years of independence, so there couldn’t have been a better day.” The left-handed all-rounder further revealed that post their respective retirement announcements, both him and Dhoni hugged each other and cried. After that, both of them sat and talked about their careers with their teammates. MS Dhoni followed the due procedure of retirement and informed the BCCI of his announcement at 19:29 hours on August 15. Suresh Raina, however, announced his retirement via a social media post and informed the Indian cricket board a day later, on August 16.
N Srinivasan says Dhoni will
continue to be associated with CSK, for as long as he wants:
MS Dhoni wanted to consult his
franchise, and close friend N Srinivasan before taking a final decision to call
it a day. The former BCCI President and the man behind CSK, N Srinivasan has
said that Dhoni can play for CSK as long as wants. He stated that even after
retiring from IPL, Dhoni will continue to have an association with the
franchise and will help the team in making core decisions in the future.
