The decision to raise the retirement age by two years by France President Emmanuel Macron has caused the protest across Paris by avoiding a vote in the country’s national assembly. 

The French President Emmanuel Macron introduced the reform, which raised the retirement age from 62 to 64, justifying it as necessary to keep France’s pension system from going bankrupt.

When the lower house of France’s parliament was set to vote on the change, Emmanuel Macron invoked a constitutional provision that enables the measure to be made through without a parliamentary vote.

Several people in Paris demonstrated against the government’s choice. At least 120 individuals were detained in clashes with Parisian police, according to reports, as videos of the protests were widely spread on social media.

BFMTV, a French broadcaster, posted a video compilation in Paris’ Place de la Concorde.

According to Sky News, Emmanuel Macron’s decision was also met with opposition in the French parliament, with some lawmakers singing the French national anthem while holding plaques that read “No to 64 years.”

According to Sky News, police in riot gear were also seen charging at the crowd gathered at Place de la Concorde.
