Israel reported 2 cases of New Covid Variant; Here what we know so far

Israel reported two cases of the unknown Covid-19 variant, confirmed by Israel’s health ministry, as per the report by Haaretz.

There are possibilities that the variant might be a mixture of the BA.1 (Omicron) and BA.2 variants. Further, the report added that the cases were found after patients underwent an RT-PCR test upon arrival at Ben-Gurion International Airport.

The patient is in his 30s and has symptoms such as headaches, muscle aches, and fever; the health ministry was mentioned as saying.

According to the report, Israel’s Covid CEO, Professor Salman Zarka, stated that the linking of 2 viruses is a common phenomenon that occurs due to the presence of two viruses in an identical cell.

According to the professor, the two viruses multiply as well as exchange genetic material, resulting in the formation of a new virus.

According to the report, while Omicron cases have fallen in Israel, BA.2 infections have been increasing.

According to the report, Israel’s Prime Minister Naftali Bennett met with the country’s Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz despite a spike in Covid cases, after which the premier ordered strict adherence to mark policy in closed spaces, urging folks to get vaccinated with 3 doses.

According to the report, 6,310 people tested positive for Covid in Israel this week, with 335 in critical condition and 151 on a respirator.
