Several areas of Smart City Ahmedabad were submerged in water, including 150 houses in Guptanagar, located in the Vasana area of the city. Several families spent the night on foot, with a video of one of the guilty families going viral on social media.
The Dewas Society in Guptanagar on the afternoon of July 14, four days after the incident. The water was drained from the house, but the glow on the faces of the families still did not return. Mobhi Milind Doshi of the Doshi family was so shocked by the incident that he could not speak. At that time, his wife Devyaniben Doshi and neighbor Poojaben Shah shared the painful experience of that night…
The water came at an unimaginable speed.
Devyaniben Doshi said, “The showers started around 6.30 pm to 6.45 pm. Then we thought that if we ate first, maybe if it rains fast, there would be a problem.
We didn’t finish our meal because the rain wasn’t stopped. Leaving the meal, we got up. The rain became so heavy that water began seeping into the house, so we loaded up our belongings as much as possible to save as much as possible.
First, one or two cupboards were emptied according to the water level. However, the vaults had to be opened without taking the name of stopping the water. We saved all that, but we couldn’t protect the furniture and other things. ‘
July 10 was a long and difficult night for the Doshi family. The family spent 36 hours living in Richa.
The house was filled with 6 feet of water.
Even after going upstairs, the rain wasn’t stopped and resumed at half past two in the night. The water level rose back. About 6 feet of water overflowed the house.
We stayed up all night and waited, thinking the water would recede. However, the water did not come down.
The water remained in the house for a day and a half, and the water receded on Tuesday morning. All the blocks in the society were shifted to their respective relatives. Many were even leaving home.’
“Everything in the house is broken, including the fridge, washing machine, double bed, mattress, petticoat, sofa,” Devyaniben said emotionally.
We have thrown away many things. The following houses in the Society have been badly damaged. Many did not even have time to wear clothes and were drowned.
There will be about 50 to 60 vehicles that are damaged. The society has 38 blocks, and each block has four houses, so about one hundred and fifty places are on the ground floor of the whole community.
As six feet of water flooded the house, the Doshi family tried to save as many belongings as they could carry.
Speaking further after spending two days without drinking water
She said, “After a certain level of water rises, there is a possibility of a short circuit, so Torrent turned off the power. Two days were spent without drinking water.
We have a Jain Alert Group. They gave us food packets, snack packs, milk, buttermilk, and other things from house to house for two days. The place is still muddy.
The rain that came this morning also made our condition worse. We were tensed that the water would come back to the house. It rained last night after the lights went out, and even then, the situation was terrible.
Why didn’t the government think about what would happen to us?
Poojaben Shah living next to Devyaniben, said, ‘We have been living in this society for 40 years. Water has never come here like this.
This year, the Dewas Society has also made all the facilities so that the society does not get in trouble, but uncontrolled construction has been going on for two years.
This site became an auto showroom. Because of this, society fell into a pit. The government should make some arrangements in this regard.
On the one hand, if we permit construction and showroom, why not consider what will happen to us if we live here for 40 years? Now it is said that if the pipeline is laid, what have you done for a year and a half? Should we walk with it in mind?
Devyaniben Doshi and Poojaben Shah, residents of the Dewas Society, were moved to express their grief.
The house is no longer habitable.
Poojaben said, “All these 150 houses belong to the middle class. The house is no longer habitable.
The government provides aid abroad. So what about us? Did they not see people living in society for 40 years? Many homes are such that if you earn in the morning, you can eat at night. All the people worked hard to fix things, but now there are four walls. How we will live in it now is also a question. After six feet of water in the house, what is left in the house?
