Swar Kokila Lata Mangeshkar’s 92nd birthday is today, i.e. 28th September. Born in Indore in 1929, Lataji started singing in 1940.

 She was only 9 years old at the time. In the Marathi film ‘Gajabhau’ in 1943, the Hindi song ‘Mata Ek Saput Ki Duniya Badal De ..’ was sung. She was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2001 and the Dada Saheb Phalke Award in 1989. Bollywood stars call her ‘Didi’. Special cases connected with Lataji’s life.

LataMangeshkar believes that she is a singer today because of her father. This is because she has learned to sing from him. Lataji’s father Dinanath did not know for a long time that his daughter could sing well.

 So Lataji was afraid to sing in front of them. So she used to sing in front of mom while working in the kitchen. However, when the work was not done properly, her mother threatened her and chased away.

Lata’s father’s disciple Chandrakant Gokhale was practising once when he taught the right tune. After that, Dinanath went out of work. Five-year-old Lata was playing there.

 As soon as the father left, little Lata went to the room and started telling Gokhal that he was singing the wrong way. Lata taught the right tone. Lataji admits that she learned to sing by listening to her father’s songs.

After his father’s prediction came true,

Dinanath started teaching music to Lata and his second daughter Meena. Son Hridayanath was only four years old, and Dinanath died. Dinanath was a good astrologer, and he predicted that his daughter Lata would be so successful that no one could predict her success.

Lata took over the house at the age of 13. When her father died at a young age, the responsibility of the house fell on 13-year-old Lata. So she came to Mumbai with her younger sister Meena and started working for Master Vinayak.

 At the age of 13, she acted in the film ‘Pahili Mangalagaur’ in 1942. In some films, she played the role of the sister of the hero-heroine. However, she did not enjoy acting. Recorded for ‘Love Is Blind’, but the film was not released.

The first break came when

musician Ghulam Haider took care of 18-year-old Lata and interviewed Shashadhar Mukherjee, a well-known film producer of the time. Shashadhar clearly said that this sound is too thin and will not work.

 Then Ghulam Haider allowed singing with singer Mukesh in the ‘Angreji Chhora Chala Gaya’ from the film ‘Majboor’. This was the first big break for Lata. Since then, she has sung in many films. Finally, Shashadhar realized his mistake and sang songs with Lata in films like ‘Anarkali’ and ‘Jiddi’.

Lataji also ate pickles and ice cream before recording the song. They also ate spicy things like pickles and chillies. However, her voice was not affected by this. She was the first Indian to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 1974.

Recalling her trip, Lata said that in the early days, the recording took place at night. Then, the shooting took place during the day, and songs were recorded on the studio floor at night.

 The recording lasted until the morning, and at that time, the fans were on instead of the air conditioner.
