Tom Hanks addressed a virtual press conference and
spoke about his upcoming film Greyhound which is slated to release directly on
Apple TV+ on July 10.
Tom Hanks is gearing up for his latest film’s release on the digital platform Apple TV+ on July 10. The 63-year-old is back to doing what he loves the most – talk about cinema, after surviving the novel Coronavirus infection some months back. Tom Hanks’ upcoming war drama ‘Greyhound’ will be released directly on the streaming platform, and in a virtual press conference, Hanks shared his views on the new type of a film release.
Hanks said the whole team of the film was heartbroken that the film would not be able in cinemas, but everyone accepted this way as the only practical as then, there would be a “huge glut of movies” post the reopening of theatres. Hanks believed that instead of losing money by waiting for a theatrical release, it made more sense to release the film directly on the OTT platform.
The Forrest Gump actor also admitted that even in a
non-pandemic world, Greyhound would have been “the runt of the litter” had it
released in theatres as per the original release date of the film. Hanks said
that his film was slated to release in cinemas a week after DC’s Wonder Woman, and a week before Tom Cruise’s Top Gun Maverick, which was already a tough spot, owing to other
films being franchise driven.
OTT is not bad; it’s just
different says, Tom Hanks:
Talking on the film’s OTT
release, Tom Hanks said,” A new reality is that everybody on planet Earth has
options now as to how they pay to be entertained by the stories of their
choice. So it’s not bad, it’s just different. It is disappointing because this
movie (Greyhound), looks fantastic on a huge screen, mixed the way it is, and
posted the way we had it. But it’s still going to be a 100% physiological
experience. “
