Cricket’s Teen Prodigy Sooryavanshi Gets Parental Support on England Tour

India’s cricket sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will make his maiden senior team appearance with an unprecedented advantage—his parents will accompany him on the upcoming white-ball tour of Ireland and England. The 15-year-old opener earned his India call-up following an outstanding IPL 2026 performance, securing selection for two T20Is against Ireland and five matches against England, beginning in Belfast on June 26.

BCCI’s Unique Decision

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia explained the board’s rationale for allowing parental accompaniment. “After many decades, we have someone like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi entering a senior dressing room,” Saikia told PTI. The last player of similar age was Sachin Tendulkar. With no 14 or 15-year-old typically featured in senior squads, the board determined parental support would help the teenager adjust to an adult-dominated environment where all other players exceed 18 years of age.

Supporting Young Talent

Saikia emphasized that Sooryavanshi’s schoolboy status necessitated this decision. “Even school students on excursions have senior supervision. Vaibhav remains a kid,” he stated. The board views this arrangement as essential for the youngster’s comfort and development within professional cricket’s demanding ecosystem.

The teenage sensation’s rise has been extraordinary. He finished IPL 2026 as the leading run-scorer with 776 runs at an astonishing strike rate of 237.31, hitting 72 sixes. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar acknowledged that Sooryavanshi’s performances made selection unavoidable.

Should Sooryavanshi play in Belfast, he will become India’s youngest-ever senior international player, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s historic record. The BCCI’s decision reflects their confidence in protecting and nurturing this generational talent while ensuring his successful integration into international cricket.
