Vivek Agnihotri takes on ‘costume slaves’ in his tweet

As the Cannes Film Festival continues to attract a slew of Indian and worldwide celebrities this year, filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has taken to Twitter to discuss the employment of helpers who follow female celebrities on the red carpet.

He posted a photo of Aishwarya’s first red carpet-appearance this year. She posed in a silver gown with a train and also a large hood in the photo, as a man in a black suit distributed her gown’s length equally on the red carpet for flawless photos.

Vivek Agnihotri tweeted below Aishwarya Rai’s photo, “Have you guys heard of a term called ‘costume Slaves’?” They are mostly women (save for one suitably dressed man).

They may now be seen on practically every female celebrity in India. Why are we becoming so ignorant and oppressive for something as inconvenient as fashion?

Some agreed with Vivek, but others questioned him for criticising Aishwarya. “Why are you jealous?” a Twitter user inquired. You were not invited to Cannes.” “Personal preference!” said another.

“It’s none of your business.” “I think the brands pay them (ambassadors) for the carpet looks,” one tweet added. Money is what makes the world go round. After all, it is a part of show business.”

Meanwhile, a Twitter user who agreed with Vivek remarked, “Whoever’s dress/costume, their responsibility.”

This female pampering should come to an end.” “Do they watch films in these?” remarked another. How do they like the movies? She would have felt very uneasy.”

For her 1st appearance on the Cannes red carpet this year, Aishwarya wore Sophie Couture. However, she was mocked for it online because many people didn’t like her appearance.

On Thursday, she attended the premiere of Hollywood veteran Harrison Ford’s flick Indiana Jones: The Dial of Destiny.

According to their official Instagram page, the ensemble is part of the label’s Cannes Capsule Collection.

Aishwarya, who has attended the Cannes Film Festival for many years, landed in France earlier this week with her daughter Aradhaya Bachchan.

She is currently riding high on the accolades she has received for her performance in Ponniyin Selvan: II.
