On Friday, torrential rain washed out some of the Gairsain-Karnprayag highway-109 near Kalimati in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district.

According to the police, the road washed away roughly 15 metres near Kalimati on Thursday night due to heavy rain, and commuters driving from Gairsain to Karnprayag and Nainital were trapped on both sides of the road.

Meanwhile, the Badrinath national highway in Chamoli was closed in five locations on Friday between Nandprayag and Badrinath due to landslides caused by heavy rain in many areas.

According to officials quoted by news agency PTI, the Rishikesh-Yamunotri national highway was also halted due to debris at Dharasu band in Uttarkashi.

Waterlogging occurred in several areas as a result of drain closures.

On Friday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami evaluated the status of relief and rescue efforts in Haridwar, declaring the inundated districts “disaster-prone” and deferring payment of power and water bills, as well as other government dues and loans, for the next three months.

The CM promised that steps would be taken to channel the rivers to lessen the risk of flooding. Depending on the need, permanent flood assistance centres will be built in disaster-affected areas.

Due to torrential rains in Haridwar, 71 villages in the tehsils of Roorkee, Laksar, Bhagwanpur, and Haridwar were drowned, causing numerous families to relocate.

This monsoon has pounded India’s northern provinces. A flood-like situation has developed in sections of numerous states, including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Jammu and Kashmir.
