People on social media shared images of numerous bridges in the hill state collapsing into rivers where water flow appeared to be particularly intense.
Ashwani Kumar, additional district magistrate in Mandi, stated that the historic Panchvaktra bridge washed away when the river’s water level rose.
News agency visuals The heavy rain swept down a 50-year-old bridge linking Aut in Mandi district with Larji beside Sainj and Banjar, according to ANI.
Former state Chief Minister Jairam Thakur raised concern since these bridges had great historical value for Himachal and were the “identity of Himachal.”
IMD predicts thunderstorm in Himachal Pradesh:
Moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, is expected to continue in most parts of the districts of Bilaspur, Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Una, Hamirpur, Mandi, and Kullu, according to the India Meteorological Department.
The IMD also stated that heavy rain is probable in isolated areas, with light to moderate showers possible in a few other regions.
The constant rain caused at least 20 landslides, 17 flash floods, and the damage of over 30 dwellings, roads, and automobiles. According to officials, all major rivers flood, including the Ravi, Beas, Satluj, Swan, and Chenab.
Earlier, clips showed the overflowing Beas River taking away a section of the national highway near Kullu, Himachal Pradesh.
On Monday and Tuesday, schools and universities will be closed. Hundreds of passengers were stuck in various parts of the state, including Chandratal in Lahaul and Spiti and near Sadhupul in Solan district, when around 765 highways, including the Chandigarh-Manali route, were closed.
Six individuals were killed in rain-related accidents on Sunday, bringing the total death toll to 54 since June 24.
A Twitter user named ‘Weatherman Shubham’ posted a video of Chamba’s Bakan bridge destroyed by high currents in the Ravi River.
There have also been reports of murky water spilling into residences in Una, stores swamped in Manali, and automobiles running in floodwater at Nullah in the districts of Kullu, Kinnaur, and Chamba.
Meanwhile, chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu encouraged residents to avoid going near waterways and to be cautious.
