Apple has made it possible for you to include your family in subscriptions for some Apple products, such as Apple Music and Apple Arcade, but you can now still share app purchases on time.
Apple announced subscription sharing:
Apple also announced that it is possible to share both subscriptions as well as in purchases. So you will always be the only one that can do it if you purchase a ‘consumable’ item on an app, such as coins for a game, but if you unlock a pro or even an ad-free version of an app, it might be available for this new Family Sharing.
Apple announced the new feature:
Back in June, Apple announced this feature with the Big Sur, but it finally provided developers with the go-ahead to allow sharing of subscriptions as well as purchases.
Developers would, however, need to “flip that switch” since a manual opt-in is to enable Family Sharing of an in-app purchase or subscription.
How it works:
This role is also slowly rolling out through applications and may not be available to all and all apps immediately.
If you are the one spending for subscription, go to Settings, click on your name and then tap on ‘Subscriptions’ to verify which apps already support Family Sharing.
You will notice a switch under ‘Subscriptions’ called ‘Share new subscriptions,’ Toggling it on will automatically grant family members access to approved in-app subscriptions that you have subscribed to.
You’ll see the list of your new subscriptions right below. If you select one of them, you will be taken to the ‘Edit Subscription’ tab, where if the developer has already switched it on, you can see the ‘Share with Family’ switch. Toggling this on will provide access to the same subscription you have purchased for your family.
Bear in mind, however, that this feature does not work for games-like in-app consumables.
So if your preferred app does not yet allow the sharing of subscriptions, you might have to wait for a little as well as keep checking on the Subscription screen.
For some applications, some users receive updates when their subscriptions become available for Family Sharing..
