Union Home Minister Amit Shah is due to visit the cyclone-affected areas of Gujarat to assess the situation, two days after Biparjoy made landfall. It Was a severe cyclonic storm in the state’s coastal districts. 

Shah will travel to Jakhau port in the Kutch district to speak with individuals who have been evacuated from coastal areas and are temporarily residing in shelter homes.

In Mandvi, the minister will also meet with the impacted residents. Shah will review the relief operation in the Bhuj district during his visit to his home state. 

He is scheduled to meet with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and key state government officials.

On Thursday night, Cyclone Biparjoy passed the Saurashtra-Kutch coast at Jakhau Port as a severe cyclone storm with 115-125 kmph gusts. The cyclone interrupted power and communication lines in coastal regions.

Due to the cyclone’s impact, several trees were reported uprooted in Bhuj, Kutch. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) crew cleared the area on Friday.

During the Friday evening, the state government announced that over 1,000 workers were working to restore power across eight districts in Gujarat.

On Friday evening, Cyclone Biparjoy weakened into a strong cyclonic storm, then a cyclonic storm, and eventually a deep depression.

On Saturday morning, the system – a remnant of Cyclone Biparjoy – was over Southwest Rajasthan, bordering Gujarat and Southeast Pakistan, and around 130 km northeast of Dholavira. 

According to a report by the Indian Meteorological Department, the deep depression will fade into depression over the following six hours.
