In Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia, 54 people have perished due to the recent heatwave, while 44 people have died in Bihar in the last three days.

The deaths in Ballia prompted the Uttar Pradesh government to begin an investigation and transfer Diwakar Singh, the chief medical superintendent of the district hospital, to Azamgarh. He has been appointed as the division’s additional director (health).

It should be mentioned that Ballia is not alone in feeling the effects of the heatwave. Several other districts in UP and other northern Indian states are also experiencing extreme temperatures.

Here are a few updates on the Ballia heat wave:

At least 54 patients died at a district hospital in Ballia between June 15 and 17, with the blazing heat exacerbating their pre-existing conditions.

According to officials, the majority of the patients were above the age of 60.

While 23 people died on June 15, 11 more died until the afternoon of June 16, according to a statement released by the district health department. However, ten more individuals died on Friday, according to a top hospital official.

Ten more deaths were reported in Ballia on Saturday.

The Ballia district reported a maximum temperature of 43°C on Saturday, five degrees above usual, with a relative humidity of 25%, exacerbating the heat.

Dr SK Yadav has been appointed as Ballia’s chief medical superintendent.

“All of the individuals were suffering from some ailments, and their conditions worsened due to the extreme heat,” Ballia chief medical officer Jayant Kumar told the Associated Press on Saturday. He said heart attacks, strokes, and diarrhoea caused most deaths.

In Bihar, 35 of the 44 deaths occurred in Patna alone, with 19 patients dying at Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) and 16 at PMCH. According to India Today, nine persons have perished in different parts of the state.

According to the daily meteorological advisory, Sheikhpura was the hottest spot in the state on Saturday, with a high temperature of 45.1°C, followed by Patna (44.7°C), Gaya (44.1°C), West Champaran (44.4°C), Bhojpur (44.5°C), Aurangabad (44.8°C), Nawada (44.1°C), and Siwan (44.1°C).
